X MARKS THE . . .

I cut this X half my life ago! "What's buried here?" you ask, I won't tell.

THE MANDOLIN AND THE BIRD'S EYE

A couple weeks back we found a good perch to enjoy the night, (once Pete and Cliff perfected their mandolin repertoire).

Katie in good spirits despite the obvious.

GRAND BEACH HAZE

There's nothing like a cool, sludgy swim after ripping along the sandy (and sometimes rock infested) trails in the hazy 32°C heat. All of the marked trails are made for cross-country skiing and hiking, but there are a few intersections with unmarked singletrack to keep you busy.

WINNIPEG BIKE MAP

The Winnipeg bike map has been out for a while now, and I am still stoked that my photo got published on the back flap! Karla, Dantz, and Dustin have been signing autographs all over town!

THE IMMACULATE GROTTO CONCEPT

I came upon these seemingly archaic constructions while researching gravel road cycling routes. Located about 27 kilometers north of the Rosewood abode where I was raised, the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception and the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes are two impressive buildings‎ to behold. Given their grandure, and the lack of any other notable  structures on the surrounding prairies, they seem very out of place.

Designed by Reverend Phillip Ruh, O.M.I.* (1883 - 1962), the construction of the church commenced in 1930, and was elaborately painted by local amateur artists at the time of completion in 1938. Reverend Ruh passed away before the consumation of the adjoining Grotto and was layed to rest in the neighboring cemetery.
